Accavitti on Dodge Struggles

In a recent interview, Mike Accavitti, the Director of the Dodge Brand and SRT Marketing and Communication, unraveled the company’s struggles, goals and more.

Accavitti tackled how the new nose for the Charger and the Avenger put them behind. “The more change you have in an organization, the more change you have in a racecar, the more things you have to work on. I guess in all honesty I guess the teams underestimated the impact both of those changes were going to have. We tested the nose together several times last year. We all came to a conclusion. We all reached an agreement that it was the right thing to do. Every team had an input and every team agreed to that,” he said.

He added, “When we put the nose on the car, it affected the suspension setup more on those downforce tracks than we had anticipated. It’s taken a little while to get our arms around what the issues were and get some action plans in place. At the same time, we’re trying to figure out the COT, so that’s really what kind of got us behind the eight ball. We feel like we’re really picking up some steam now in our performance, average finish performance is showing it.”

Accavitti also intimated how they underestimated work load on the cot. “What we underestimated was the workload both the new nose and the COT was going to challenge us with. On the COT, we really didn’t have as good a grasp as we should have on that vehicle and how it was going to perform in a pack. We can only test so much. We’re learning as we go along, the teams are, taking actions to identify what the issues are. Again, I think they’re all making tremendous progress, particularly the Penske Organization.”

Asked to explain Kasey Kahne’s problems, Accavitti has this to say: “Kasey is the real deal. We have the utmost faith in Kasey and the Evernham Motorsports Organization. They’re a class act team, and they’re going to do what they need to do to get Kasey back in victory lane. You guys are more familiar with this sport than I am. It’s very difficult to explain how people can go from winning a whole boatload of races one year to not winning any races for a little while. We’ve seen it over and over again. Sometimes it’s called the sophomore jinx. Sometimes it’s called other things.”

Speaking about Newman’s success and other Dodge Team’s struggle, Accavitti said: “This is one of the biggest issues we’ve had. We can go incredibly fast as a group for one lap. We saw this actually last year. That really is the genesis of what led to the nose redesign because the drivers describe the former nose, as while it provided a hell of a lot of front downforce, it led to a car that was somewhat unstable in the pack. The new nose was supposed to rectify that issue. Last year we did very well in poles. This year we’re doing equally as well. I think we have one less pole this year than we did at the same time last year.” The fervor of the division is more stirring than before. It could not be easily shunned even by the dependable EBC brake pads.

Accavitti also commented on Tom LaSorda’s role with Dodge. “Chrysler LLC will be the name of the new company if everything goes through. Absolutely, Mr. Tom LaSorda is going to be the chairman and CEO of that company. He is supportive of the racing program,” he said.

Hi there, so my dad's friend gave me a Cleveland Putter that he said goes with a matching set, the club or stick itself, look almost like a Pool Que, and seems a bit loose, and dated, but in decent condition. I guess my question is that the Putter is heavier, and i think it, and the ones with the set are a Man's Set. So Should i get these clubs and use them? I figure that with the weight i can Increase my power level and distance, when i start using lighter Woman's clubs when i rejoin my schools Golf team. My other and last question is that I'm Fairly short ("5'3"), and would this be a good choice when the putter is up to my waist. I'm sorry that this is so long but i just want to make sure i explained enough. THANKS.

Swingweight (the perception of how heavy the head feels while holding the grip end) is based on a scale A-G, 0-9 (for example, B6, D4, or E9). The higher the letter and number, the heavier the club feels (D9 is lighter than E3, for another example). Most major brands clubs come off the rack in the D2 range, while women's are around C8 (give or take). That is a decent sized gap.

While it might build muscle, it won't do much for your swing. If anything, it'll ingrain bad habits (swinging way past parallel, bending the left arm too much at the top of the swing, not being able to properly release the club through impact, etc.) that'll be difficult to break when you get clubs that actually fit.

The good news is, most club heads (especially the older ones) are basically the same. The only differences^ between a male and female-targeted club head is paint scheme ("girlie" colors for women's) and a loft tweak... usually one degree weaker (men's 5 iron = 30*, women's 5 iron = 31*).

If you can, take your clubs to a local club fitter- don't use the Yellow Pages, do a Y! or Google search for a clubmaker locator- you'll have more success that way. S/He can do a fitting, and retro-fit all your sticks so they'll perform the way you need them to. It'll cost a little bit, depending on how much for components you're willing to spend (although, there are very good grips for less than a $1 each, and shafts for less than $3 each- look at Hireko.com for more info). The fitted set will help you develop good habits... it's not a cure-all, but it'll definitely put you on the right path.

Saving money buy purchasing cheap golf clubs is not your only option, if take care of your golf clubs, they will sustain a longer longevity and maximum of performance. Here are some simple tips for you to follow to easily take care of your clubs.

 

Headcovers are necessary especially for your woods. Irons are generally tougher than woods to nick or ding, but if you want to use headcovers for your irons, too, iron covers are easy to find at golf shops. And don't forget a headcover for your putter. A ding on the putter surface can really affect your ability to putt the ball in a straight line.

 

Keep a golf towel attached to your bag and wipe off the face of the club after each shot (just make sure you aren't delaying play in order to do so). And give your clubs a good cleaning at least every few rounds. You don't want dirt hardening onto the clubface.

 

Whether they are expensive or cheap golf clubs, I'm sure will never want them to get damaged. So clean your clubs regularly, at least monthly or before every round, if possible. Use water and mild dish soap for metal golf clubs, water only for graphite golf clubs. Graphite clubs have a protective sealant. If this sealant wears off, individual fibers may break, making your golf clubs more prone to snapping in half. Check and reseal graphite as needed. Clean the dirt out of all of the grooves in the golf club head. Rinse thoroughly and towel dry. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the grips and replace them every year, if you play frequently, or every other year for occasional players.

 

If you are not using your golf clubs, store them indoors, not in the trunk of your car or a garage where changes in temperature and humidity can damage them.

 

Finally, fractures not only happen to cheap golf clubs, so inspect the shafts of your clubs for dents, nicks or splits. If you see any of these, it might be time to replace the shaft.

But how is it done with a tomahawk? Especially with those made by Cold Steel which have a hole in the side of the axe head.

The handles for tomahawks I've seen look like a round tapered stick and no wedges seem to be used because of the small diameter of the handle.

So...what is the hole on the side for, and how to I rehandle one?

All tomahawks I ever saw were just a simple taper like a pick instead of double taper like axes and sledge hammers.
You just drop the tomahawk down the handle and bounce it upside down on something hard to seat it.
They were meant to be removable.
You take the handle out by bumping the butt end down on something hard.
Cold steel puts a hole in their shovels and axes so you can drive a screw in there to make sure the handle does not fall back out.
Drill a pilot hole for the screw.
